Saw chains

Saw chains consist of alternating right and left chisel cutters, drive links and tie-straps riveted together in a certain sequence. The drive links face inwards or downwards; they run in the guide bar rail and engage with the sprocket of the clutch drum, which transfers power from the engine to the drive links. The cutting edge of the chisel cutter removes the chips from the wood. The thickness of the chip is determined by the difference in height between the top plate and the raker or depth gauge. For effi cient operation of the chain saw the cutting edges of the chisel cutters must be kept sharp at all times
